2026 Volvo XC90 Updates

tan 2026 Volvo XC90 SUV

The XC90 is Volvo's most popular model in the United States, and for good reason. This SUV accommodates up to seven people, spread across three rows, making it an excellent choice for families. You can choose from various powertrain options and enjoy extensive tech features through an easy-to-access infotainment system. Inside and out, the XC90 boasts Volvo's sleek yet understated Scandinavian design, creating a vehicle with an upscale road presence. If you want to know more about the 2026 XC90 or take one for a test-drive, our team at Volvo Cars Mission Viejo is here to help.

What's New for 2026?

Volvo gave the XC90 a major upgrade for 2025, including the addition of a new infotainment system, a revised interior design, and a suspension upgrade. The 2026 model builds further on these updates. You can look forward to a larger touch screen, providing access to an infotainment system based on Google technology. The interior features wood trim and high-quality synthetic leather upholstery, with various add-ons available for the newly named top T8 Ultra trim. There's a lot to be excited about with the XC90's new model year.

Design and Style

Volvo stands out for its minimalist yet high-end design and style. The XC90's exterior fits this bill with its understated class and range of color options, from dark black to more vibrant red and green options. The XC90 rides relatively high on 20-inch wheels, giving you a commanding view of the road. The roof rails are a convenient touch if you need to transport light items on top of the car, while the power-folding mirrors and hands-free liftgate help complete the upscale exterior.

Interior, Comfort, and Tech

Inside the cabin, Volvo redesigned the dashboard for the 2025 model year. One of the most obvious differences was the addition of an 11.2-inch touch screen for accessing the infotainment system. In the previous version of the XC90, a 9-inch screen sat snugly in the dashboard. The larger touch screen in the new edition has a more prominent position up front. On either side, you'll find two redesigned air vents. Synthetic leather upholstery is standard throughout the cabin, but you can opt for leatherette, leather, or nappa leather seats if you choose one of the higher trims.

In terms of seating, you can choose from two layouts. The standard setup is a seven-seater XC90 with a second-row bench, but in higher trims, you can add captain's chairs in the second row for more comfort. The third row is smaller and is best suited for seating the kids. Both rear rows can be folded down to create more cargo space. Volvo estimates that with both the second and third rows down, you can fit over 66 cubic feet of gear behind the front row.

In addition to the larger touch screen, Volvo equips the XC90 with various exciting pieces of technology. An optional 14-speaker premium stereo can ensure the very best in sound quality. If you prefer using your phone to select your favorite music or podcasts, there's also standard wired Apple CarPlay available.

Performance and Powertrain

Three powertrain options are available, each with some degree of hybrid power generation. The base Volvo XC90 engine is known as the B-5. It's a 2.0L four-cylinder unit capable of producing 247 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, assisted by an electric motor. The B-6 engine is the next level up, featuring the same powertrain but with a supercharger. This upgrade boosts overall output to 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

For a big SUV, both powertrains can get the job done. The standard engine can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, while the supercharged B-6 knocks half a second off that time by achieving 60 mph in 6.8 seconds.

The final engine option in Volvo's XC90 lineup is a plug-in hybrid unit, which offers up to 32 miles of all-electric driving, a solid range for a family-sized SUV. When it comes to output, the plug-in hybrid XC90 can produce 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. These numbers are achieved by combining the 2.0L turbocharged engine with an 18.8 kWh battery pack.

The plug-in hybrid XC90 is the one to choose if you enjoy speedy acceleration, as it boasts an impressive 0-to-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. Keep in mind that the plug-in hybrid costs significantly more; the range-topping 2026 T8 Ultra is likely to be priced at over $80,000.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

One of the XC90's key available driver-assistance features is pilot assist, which can help adjust your speed, steer, and change lanes on stretches of highway. Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and automatic emergency braking. Other useful features include traffic sign recognition, which helps you stay informed about speed limits and other driving rules, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Automatic high-beam headlights help ensure good visibility under all driving conditions.

With higher trims, such as the Plus or Ultra, you can access a surround-view parking camera and side parking sensors to help you maneuver into the perfect spot. The range-topping Ultra trim also features a head-up display, allowing you to keep an eye on your Volvo's performance without taking your eyes off the road ahead.
