The 2026 Volvo XC60 is expected to arrive in late 2025, and compact crossover SUV lovers are counting down the days. While this luxurious vehicle has similarities with its predecessor, including the overall design, it features several notable updates. Let's see what's new for the upcoming 2026 XC60.

Overview of the Volvo XC60 Model

The Volvo XC60 is a leader in the compact luxury SUV segment. First manufactured by Volvo Cars in 2008, this vehicle is part of the Volvo 60 series, which comprises several other models, such as the S60 and V60 Cross Country.

Some of the Volvo XC60's selling points include its stylish Scandinavian styling and quiet, comfortable cabin. Additionally, its infotainment system promises to keep you entertained and informed while driving around California.

The XC60 has been redesigned over the years, with each new model featuring a few enhancements or differences from the previous version. The 2026 Volvo XC60, for instance, has a lot in store for drivers, including exterior design updates.

For the 2026 model, four trims are available—Core, Plus, Ultra, and the highest level, Ultra Black Edition. The 2025 model also came with four trims, but we got the Polestar Engineered instead of the Ultra Black Edition.

New Features in the 2026 Volvo XC60

The new Volvo XC60 flaunts changes to its interior and exterior as Volvo strives to enhance its appeal to drivers.

Exterior Design

The Volvo XC60 has a facelift thanks to its larger grille with an eye-catching diagonal motif, darker rear lights, and new wheel options. That aside, the new ride offers three additional paint colors — Mulberry Red, Forest Lake, and Aurora Silver. Otherwise, the new vehicle's body dimensions are similar to those of its predecessors.

Interior Styling and Enhancements

Volvo rides are known for prioritizing comfort and convenience, and the 2026 XC60 doesn't disappoint. With new upholstery options such as Navy Herringbone and Quilted Nordico, the vehicle's interior offers a more luxurious feel than some previous models. It also has sound insulation upgrades to minimize cabin noise.

The upcoming 2026 XC60 also has a few practical upgrades inside. These include the redesigned cupholders that are bigger and easier to use. You'll also get a wireless phone charger, which could improve functionality and enhance driving experiences. Volvo hasn't confirmed that it's faster, though.

Infotainment and Connectivity Features

The 2026 XC60's larger, free-standing 11.2-inch touch screen outshines its predecessor, which had a 9-inch center display. Plus, its infotainment system is powered by Qualcomm's advanced Snapdragon Cockpit software, so you should expect considerably faster operating speeds.

Since this new Volvo's infotainment system has Google Built-In, you should expect easier access to handy services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store. Notably, Volvo has announced that all its 2026 models will have this upgrade, including Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit software.

Performance and Powertrain Options

When it comes to performance and engine options, the new Volvo XC60 is almost identical to its predecessors. Both the T8 plug-in hybrid and the B5 mild hybrid variants are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled with an eight-speed transmission for more efficient power delivery.

The 2026 XC60's base model has a fuel economy of  22 mpg city/28 mpg highway, just like older models. If you prioritize efficiency, the T8 plug-in hybrid shows off an electric range of up to 35 miles.

According to Volvo, the new 2026 XC60 can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.5-6.8 seconds. This means the car is a bit slower than rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLC-class, but slightly faster than the Lexus NX350h.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Technologies

The 2026 XC60 brings a robust safety suite that retains most of its predecessor's features. These include Pilot Assist, a driver-assistance technology that offers adaptive cruise control with lane centering. While the former enables you to keep a safe driving distance from the car ahead of you, the latter allows you to drive the vehicle within its lane, preventing collisions.

Another notable safety feature in the new XC60 is the 360-degree camera system, which boasts front, rear, and side sensors. It captures a 360-degree view of your surroundings and then displays it on the car's infotainment screen. This helps you to avoid other vehicles and obstacles when driving or parking.

More safety features available for XC60 drivers include:

  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Cross traffic alert
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automated emergency braking (with pedestrian detection)

Pricing

The new Volvo XC60 is expected to have a starting MSRP of $50,995. Depending on the trim, you may have to shell out more to own the ride. For instance, the Ultra's price tag may read $60,945, while the Ultra Black Edition could cost as much as $62,095.

Choosing the Right 2026 Volvo XC60

The new XC60 is available in four trims, and you can't possibly drive all of them home. The big question is, how do you select the right model for you once the vehicle hits the market? Your budget is the first thing you should factor in. Higher trim levels are typically more expensive than the base model, so you should consider the latter if you're on a shoestring budget.

Something else you must mull over before you choose your 2026 Volvo XC60 is your wants or needs. Remember, while technologies like an 11.2-inch infotainment screen and lane departure warning are standard across all trims, others are not. For example, the 360-degree camera system is available in the Plus trim but not the base Core trim. Therefore, if the feature is on your must-have list, the Plus model would suit you best.
