The 2026 Volvo SUV lineup is almost here, and there's a lot to discuss. If you've been thinking about a luxury SUV that's equal parts smart, safe, and good-looking, Volvo's new lineup might be just what you're looking for. There's something for everyone, from the sleek XC60 to the all-electric EX90.

There's a lot to unpack about these SUVs — tech, style, and safety features. If you're considering an upgrade or simply curious about Volvo's direction in 2026, you're in the right place. Our Volvo Cars Mission Viejo team has compiled this guide to help you take a closer look.

The Evolution of Volvo SUVs

Volvo's SUV story began in 2002 with the introduction of the XC90, and it didn't take long for that model to establish its reputation. Big on space, built like a tank, and equipped with the kind of safety features Volvo is known for, the XC90 sets a solid foundation.

The XC60 arrived in 2008 with a slightly smaller footprint, but didn't skimp on features or design. In 2019, the XC40 landed in the U.S. — small, stylish, and full of character. Fast forward to 2026, and Volvo is fully embracing electric cars with models such as the EX90 and EX40. Volvo is focused on cleaner driving, but it hasn't lost sight of comfort or safety.

What Sets 2026 Models Apart

Volvo's 2026 SUV lineup will receive more than just a few minor updates. The new XC60 will feature a bolder front grille design with a new diagonal pattern, enhancing the visibility of the Volvo logo. The taillights will get a darker shroud, just enough to give the rear end a more refined edge. Additionally, expect fresh wheel designs and three stunning new paint options: Forest Lake, Aurora Silver, and Mulberry Red. Drivers will notice a new 11.2-inch touch screen that replaces the old 9-inch unit, delivering sharper graphics and quicker responses.

The XC90 underwent a major refresh in 2025, so the 2026 model is expected to carry over without significant changes.

There's also the all-new, all-electric EX60, built on Volvo's third-generation platform. It'll feature an 800-volt system for faster charging and utilize megacasting technology to streamline production.

Model-Specific Overviews

The new Volvo models are poised to offer a refined blend of innovation, performance, and electric capabilities, ideal for your California lifestyle. Let's learn more about them.

2026 Volvo XC90

The 2026 Volvo XC90 model is expected to retain all the features that have made it a favorite among midsize luxury SUVs. It will offer great performance, a stylish design, and plenty of family-friendly options. You'll be pleased to know that three rows of seating are standard, and the interior is an excellent example of Scandinavian design, combining simple lines with high-quality materials to create a relaxing atmosphere that's not often found in this class at the XC90’s price.

The XC90 will continue offering two powertrains: the 247-hp B5 and the more robust 295-hp B6, both supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The B6 version has more power, thanks to the addition of a supercharger. If towing capability is on your list, you'll want the B6. It's configured to handle up to 5,000 pounds, while the B5 tops out at 4,000 pounds.

The 2026 XC90’s technology will feature an 11.2-inch infotainment screen running Google-based software, paired with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay, voice controls via Google Assistant, and premium sound options, such as Bowers & Wilkins, will be available. Of course, safety remains front and center, with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and emergency braking standard across the lineup.

2026 Volvo XC60

The 2026 Volvo XC60 will feature some thoughtful updates to a model that's already earned its place in the compact luxury SUV market. It'll have clean Scandinavian lines, refreshed front-end styling, and Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights. The grille is expected to have a new diagonal pattern for 2026.

The same calm, upscale vibe is evident in the cabin. It's built for comfort with plenty of space, supportive front seats, and materials that feel refined. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and integrated starter-generator deliver 247 hp, paired with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A new 11.2-inch touch screen runs more smoothly and appears sharper than before, thanks to Snapdragon's updated cockpit software. Standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Volvo's top-tier safety features mean the XC60 will continue to strike a solid balance — stylish, smart, and capable.

2026 Volvo EX60

The 2026 Volvo EX60 is slated to follow the flagship EX90 and is expected to find a home in the electric SUV market. Bigger than the EX30 but smaller than the EX90, it targets the compact luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment. Initial hints suggest that it will incorporate some of the best features from other models, such as a sleek exterior, easy-to-use technology, and the outstanding safety systems for which Volvo is known.

Built on Volvo's next-generation EV platform and backed by an 800-volt architecture, the EX60 is expected to benefit from quicker charging and a more efficient overall structure. The battery capacity is likely to be around 80 kWh, which could translate to a driving range of nearly 300 miles for the Volvo EX60. As for performance, a single-motor version is expected to offer more power than the EX30's 268 hp, while the twin-motor setup will likely fall somewhere between the EX30's 422 hp and the EX90's 496 hp.

The interior looks to be just as advanced. A Google-powered infotainment setup, featuring a 14.5-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, phone-as-key capabilities, and over-the-air updates, will be included. And in true Volvo fashion, the EX60 is expected to feature a comprehensive suite of safety tools, including blind-spot monitoring and semi-autonomous driving support.
