2025 Volvo EX90 vs. 2025 Audi Q8 e-tron
The luxury electric SUV market is rapidly expanding, with two big players at the forefront. The 2025 Volvo EX90 combines sleek Scandinavian style with the latest tech features. On the other hand, the 2025 Audi Q8 e-tron showcases top-notch German engineering for an impressive driving experience in California. Both of these rides represent the best in electric luxury but go about winning drivers in different ways. In this 2025 Volvo EX90 vs. Audi Q8 e-tron review, compiled by us at Volvo Cars Mission Viejo, we compare the two models so you can make a smart choice.
Performance and Powertrain
The Volvo EX90 is an all-wheel-drive SUV with a dual-motor setup. The Twin Motor version produces 402 horsepower, while the Twin Motor Performance version boosts it to 510 horsepower. The adjustable air suspension works hand-in-hand with adaptive dampers and the EX90’s excellent steering, keeping your ride smooth even on rough surfaces.
It's surprisingly quiet for an electric car. Volvo claims the Twin Motor can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, while the Twin Motor Performance variant does it in 4.7 seconds.
The Audi Q8 e-tron's horsepower is impressive for an all-wheel-drive vehicle. Under its sharp-looking exterior, the e-tron features two electric motors, one in the front and one in the back. These motors generate 355 horsepower and 414 lb-ft of torque, but switch to Sport mode and you get 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque.
The Q8 e-tron is quick and handles well, with the braking system balancing regular and regenerative braking nicely. The Q8 e-tron Sportback accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, achieving optimal performance.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Range anxiety is pretty much a nonissue with these awesome battery systems. The EX90 has a 107 kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of 300 to 310 miles, depending on configuration. DC fast charging is standard on the EX90, allowing you to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. It also supports bidirectional charging, meaning you can use it to power up your home appliances or even charge a compatible electric vehicle.
The Q8 e-tron boasts a 106 kWh battery that can deliver an EPA-estimated range of 285 miles on a single charge. The Sportback model, with the Ultra package, can reach up to 300 miles. The Ultra package includes sleek 19-inch wheels and a suspension designed for better efficiency. Without the package, the standard Sportback still gets around 296 miles. All Q8 e-trons also come with a 170 kW fast charger, letting you charge to 80% in about half an hour.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Space
The minimalist interior of the EX90 has most controls on a 14.5-inch touch-screen infotainment system. It's clean with that classic Scandinavian vibe emphasizing natural materials and thoughtful details. Thanks to a large glass roof, the space is open and airy, plus it can seat seven people with the standard third row of seats.
Volvo ditched leather for eco-friendly reasons, and the materials have an upscale look, especially the wood look-alike made from recycled plastic bottles. The EX90 features LED technology that replicates the natural sunlight spectrum for a relaxed cabin ambiance, as well as an air purification system to keep harmful particles at bay.
The Q8 e-tron's sleek, practical cabin stands out with its impressive, electrified tech. The dashboard features Audi's digital gauge cluster, the Virtual Cockpit, and two touch screens in the center. There are plenty of extras, such as a head-up display and massaging front seats. The e-tron accommodates five people comfortably, and the clever design of its underfloor battery pack gives you a flat floor that increases its cargo area.
Cargo capacity gives the EX90 a significant advantage, with around 71 to 74 cubic feet of space behind the front seats. The Audi Q8 e-tron gives 28.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 56.4 with the rear seats folded down. The Sportback version is less roomy, with 27.2 cubic feet and 54.5 cubic feet, respectively.
Safety, Technology, and Driver Assistance
Volvo's EX90 rolled out new driver-assistance features, including next-gen adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and active steering assist, as well as over-the-air updates. It features automated emergency braking and a radar system that prevents kids and pets from being left in hot cars. Likewise, the Audi Q8 e-tron comes packed with standard driver-assistance features, plus options such as adaptive cruise control and self-parking assist to make driving super easy.
The Q8 e-tron features dual touch screens — a 10.1-inch display on top and an 8.6-inch display below. The top screen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the Bang & Olufsen audio system, while the lower screen is mostly for climate control. It also includes several power points, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hot spot, and a wireless phone charger in the Premium Plus or Prestige trims.
The EX90's portrait infotainment display with Google-based interface features in-dash navigation via Google Maps and access to apps from the Google Play Store. It includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and 5G connectivity. The optional Bowers & Wilkins stereo system offers Dolby Atmos with 25 speakers, including headrest speakers.
